Mua Island, Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait), Queensland

Moa Arts is an Indigenous-owned and operated art centre on Mua Island in the western cluster of Zenadth Kes – the Torres Strait.

We make limited-edition linocut prints and etchings, works on paper, woven baskets and bags, and a range of traditional island-style beaded jewellery. Our artwork is one way of keeping our culture and traditions strong for everyone. It’s a celebration of our way of life, our customs and our ancient connections to family, sea and country.

The inspiration for our work comes straight from our island home. The waters and reefs around us are rich, diverse ecosystems with many rare and unique species such as dhangal (dugong) and waru (sea turtle). The colours of the reef and sky are our palette. The fibres in our weavings bind us together across time as one proud people, the Mualgal.

Artists at Moa Arts make limited-edition linocut prints and etchings, woven baskets and bags, and island-style beaded jewellery, all inspired by their Torres Strait environment, traditions and culture.
