Tarnanthi - Yia Ngkarrama (Telling Stories)

Hermannsburg’s potters have mastered skills of hand-building, painting and sculpting as a means of self-expression. Their community of Ntaria (Hermannsburg), on Arrernte Country in the Northern Territory, is located near Finke Gorge and the MacDonnell Ranges, a rich landscape that deeply inspires the artists’ work. For this exhibition, senior and emerging artists have created hand-coiled terracotta vessels depicting thepa mapa (many birds), stockmen/cowboys and the AFL.
