Taylor Wanyima Cooper and Witjiti George are two tjilpi (senior men) who paint at Kaltjiti Arts in Fregon, in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. They are nguraritja (traditional custodians) for their own stories and places, but in their painting titled Piltati Malara Wanampi Tjukurpa they converge their complementary talents, with George’s dynamic painterly gestures becalmed by Cooper’s gentle, still and grounded marks. Their collaborative paintings – new maps for ancient earth – remind us of Tarnanthi’s call to rise forth, to keep moving and inventing.
