Doris Bush Nungarrayi

Storyteller

Doris Bush Nungarrayi is a senior Luritja artist who started painting with Papunya Tjupi Arts in 2007, when the art centre was first established in the community of Papunya in the Northern Territory. She is known to be as prolific a painter as she is a boundless storyteller; her expressive hands dance across space when she’s communicating, in a manner akin to her mark-making across the canvas. In her paintings she recalls her early days of hunting, gathering bush foods and swimming around Ikuntji, west of Alice Springs.
