The setting sun
In Wet sand, Anglesea, she turns her viewpoint to capture the visual splendour of the sunset glow against the ochre cliffs and its sparkle on the wet sand. In an innovative use of refracted light, she conveys startling phenomenological effects, crafting space with the optical trickery of a magician. Her glimmering and shimmering painted results take the viewer to the edge of spatial orientation. The sun is gone, yet strips of beach and the ochre cliffs remain and dissolve into a unified luminous colour field, pushing the rendering of nature almost into abstraction.
