Join us on the first Friday of every month for a curated program of live music, talks & tours
This First Fridays we celebrate our winter exhibition double Archie 100: A Century of the Archibald Prize and Robert Wilson: Moving portraits. How well do you know yourself? Take part in a self-portraiture workshop, enjoy a leisurely drink and then soak up some funky jazz tunes performed by The 6FT Pelicans. Hear from Dr Peter Edwell about the Archibald Prize controversy of 1944 - the subject of his latest book - afterwards take a tour of the Archie 100 or wander the Robert Wilson exhibition.

Guided Tours
Learn more about the face of our nation on a Guided Tour of Archie 100: A Century of the Archibald Prize or take a tour of contemporary art including Yayoi Kusama: The Spirits of the pumpkins descended into the heavens and AGSA's SALA displays.

Musical Performance
The 6FT Pelicans
Warm up with a toe tap or full hip swing in the courtyard with The 6FT Pelicans, inspired by the American funky jazz artists of the 60’s & 70’s, these instrumental aquatic birds know how to jam.

Self portrait painting workshop with Kate Wright
The most common subjects in the Archibald Prize are the artists themselves. Of more than 6000 finalists in the prize since 1921, over 900 of them have been self-portraits. Wield your brush this First Friday and create the ultimate ‘selfie’. Experimenting in a semi-abstract style using acrylic paint, this 2 hour workshop led by artist and educator Kate Wright will guide you to create a self-portrait.
All materials supplied and no experience necessary.
