Minimal Masterpiece turns 50 - Documentary Screening
To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Donald Judd sculpture, the Gallery has commissioned a ten-minute film exploring this remarkable work. View this documentary in Gallery 17 to discovery the circumstances of Donald Judd’s visit to Adelaide, the complex creation of the work, and the protests against the sculpture.

Introduced by Maria Zagala Curator of Prints, Drawings & Photographs, learn more about Donald Judd in this comprehensive 50min recorded presentation from Christine Mehring, Professor of Art History, Visual Arts at the University of Chicago. Specialising in abstract art Mehring discusses her extensive research on Donald Judd’s architecture, furniture, and design practices.

Join us in the Radford Auditorium for an insightful discussion; hear from Donald Judd enthusiasts’ and his contemporary artists who will unpack the artistic intentions and importance of this work of art.
Dr Michael Bianco is an artist and curator who spent nearly a decade living in Marfa, Texas, the renowned artistic hub shaped by Donald Judd. For over twenty years, Bianco’s creative and scholarly practice has been deeply influenced by Judd’s radical approaches to art-making. Bianco's work reflects a sustained engagement with Judd’s legacy, expressed through both his critical research and ongoing material explorations.
Tom Borgas is a visual artist and educator living and working on the traditional land of the Kaurna people here in Adelaide, South Australia. His work explores the politics of images, objects and processes that sit at the intersection of art and architecture. Tom shares Judd’s fascination with everyday materials and what happens when spaces, people and three-dimensional forms come together.
