HEAR FROM CURATOR OF DECORATIVE ART & DESIGN, REBECCA EVANS

Marc Newson is without a doubt Australia’s most successful designer. Based in Europe since the early 1990s, he is perhaps best known for his iconic “Lockheed Lounge” design, now known as the world’s, most expensive design object by a living designer.

The Art Gallery of South Australia was one of the first museums to acquire a work by Newson, with the ‘LC1’ chaise lounge in 1986, and recently the Gallery acquired a second work, Cloisonné Blue Chair, 2017.

Join Rebecca Evans, Curator of Decorative Arts & Design as she charts the rise and rise of this important Australian designer and celebrates these two major acquisitions in the Gallery’s collection.
