Hear from Maria Zagala, Curator of Prints, Drawings & Photographs

Join Maria Zagala, Curator of Prints, Drawings & Photographs in Brent Harris: Surrender & Catch for a discussion on Attraction I, 1896, a major lithograph by the leading symbolist artist, Edvard Munch (1863–1944). This artwork was acquired through the generosity of the Foundation Collectors Club.

Known for creating The Scream, 1895, one of the most recognisable paintings of modernist angst, Munch was a painter–printmaker who created remarkably expressive works on paper that distilled and magnified themes of love, anxiety and death. Munch’s ability to communicate emotional states has continued to influence artists and writers including Melbourne-based artist, Brent Harris. Including key figures who influenced Harris's oeuvre, Attraction I is on display in the retrospective exhibition Brent Harris: Surrender & Catch (6 July – 20 October 2024).
