Making Photographs
All photographs tell a story about a certain place or moment in time. Sometimes these images are candid, but they can also be fabricated. A photographer might use digital technologies to alter an image after a photo has been taken; or create a stage or scene and direct their subjects before capturing the image with a camera. Either way – the photographer ‘makes an image’. Some of the most well-known artists who use this approach include Gregory Crewdson, Tracey Moffatt and Cindy Sherman who each make theatrical or surreal images that convey a story or an experience.
