Automatic Drawing in the Gallery for Guides
Special offer for Gallery Guides, Tuesday 9 July, 10.30-11.15pm
Get a taste of our student offering for Brent Harris: Surrender and Catch, and pick up some strategies and activities for engaging visitors with works of art.
This workshop will explore various Automatic drawing games in response to the Brent Harris exhibition Surrender & Catch. The activities will lend themselves to the notion of ‘surrendering’ – yielding power or control to another, and ‘catching’ – to intercept something that has been thrown or dropped.
Through a series of Automatic drawing games, we will explore the notion of chance, spontaneity and loose mark making. Using only pencils and paper, we will wander the gallery and respond to drawing prompts to create a collection of images that we will discuss and explore, to examine each individual’s natural art-making style.
This session is capped at 15. If there is enough interest we may be able to offer a second session at 11.30am.
