Year 10 Painting - Mercedes College
Textured still life paintings inspired by Ben Quilty
Ben Quilty’s thickly textured impasto paintings made their impression on these Year 10 Art students. The beautiful skulls which have been a part of the school’s still life collection of objects forever, became the focus of work students created after viewing the exhibition. The lilac purple aerosol marks in the background draws another connection to Quilty’s work, Inhabit and the fact that this is a favoured colour of his. The paintings have returned a sense of life again in these curious skull forms. - Luisa Stocco, Art Teacher
