What could an excursion to AGSA look like?
Year 5 & 6 West Lakes Shore School
AGSA Education have a range of workshops, tours and resources to support teachers planning a visit to the Gallery. Our Gallery Guides are volunteers and can be in high demand at times, which may mean schools will need to be self-guided. However, this needn’t be a daunting task – rather a fun experience to practise long looking with your students and engage with works of art in alternative ways.
West Lakes Shore School are regular visitors to AGSA and take advantage of these options for their students. On a recent visit Year 5 and 6 students had a self-guided visit of Tarnanthi and the permanent collection with their art teacher, Lisa Zappia, took part in the free Studio activity and had a Drawing in the Gallery workshop with artist facilitator Lauren Herraman.
Lisa Zappia utilized our online education resources for Tarnanthi, as well as pre-selecting 5-10 Curiosity Card activities that students could complete either independently or in small groups. This gave students agency over which works they were drawn to and responded to those which piqued their interest. Both the Studio activities and the Drawing in the Gallery workshop provided an opportunity for a hands-on experience that was facilitated by our artist educators.
