WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992
This composition study still has the cotton thread grid on it which Heysen used as a guide for enlargement. He pasted many of his compositional studies onto cardboard so that he could use this method of gridding up. He favoured this method more than drawing lines on the compositional study, as the thread could later be removed without marking the work.
