  • WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992

This is probably Heysen’s earliest watercolour, painted at the age of sixteen.  It was influenced by the treatment of light in the Scottish landscape Rising Mists by British artist, Peter Graham.  Heysen would have seen this painting in late 1894 at the Art Gallery of South Australia, where it was on loan from the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney.
