Rick Amor: Contemporary Romantic, 2016 - 2017
This group of works originated from Amor’s drawings of the Frankston pier in the early 1980s, after he began exploring childhood memories in his art. Since then Amor has adapted the motif of a fleeing figure in various compositions in paintings, prints and sculptures. The powerfully suggestive image recalls the unpleasant sensation of being pursued by a menacing force in a dream. Likewise, the fleeing man can also be read as a symbol of an individual’s struggle to overcome the psychological and physical difficulties faced in life.
