  • WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992

     

    Heysen’s journey to the Flinders Ranges in November 1926 generated a new phase in his art.  His best-known Flinders Rangers subject is Patawarta Hill, immortalized in his numerous ‘Land of the Oratunga’ paintings.  This early oil painting of the subject is relatively calm and static in mood and composition.
