  • WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992

From the early 1920s until about 1926, Heysen created many light-bathed pastoral landscapes.  In these works, such as Pastoral morning, the compositions are not dominated by heroic gums but show harmonious views of humanized rural landscapes.  Most of his pastorals depict landscapes in the vicinity of the small townships nestled in the Adelaide Hills near Hahndorf, such as Woodside and Balhannah.
