WALL LABEL: Landscape tapestry C. 1700
Flanders was the centre of tapestry production in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, with the very best weavers and designers known to be of Flemish origin. This particular style of tapestry was known as a verdure or garden design and was highly typical of Flemish weaving of the later seventeenth century.
