This drawing depicts the massive sandstone monolith now known as Heysen’s Hill, which stands near the entrance to Brachina Gorge.  Heysen found the ever-changing nature of this hill a challenge and continued to explore its complex structure for many years.  A finished charcoal drawing such as this, would have been worked up by Heysen in his studio from studies made on the spot, similar to those shown here.
