WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992
Certain favourite gum trees fascinated Heysen and he painted their ‘portraits’ again and again in different lights and from different angles. The two trees in Approaching storm with bushfire haze appear in a number of previous drawings by Heysen such as this one. When making the painting Heysen probably referred to these drawings for detailed information on the structure of the trees.
