WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992
This photograph by Frederick Joyner, who accompanied Heysen on his second trip to the Flinders Rangers in August 1927, captures Heysen’s method of working outdoors. He carried a stool and small folding easel with him and so was able to make drawings and small watercolour studies directly in front of the motif. These were then developed into finished compositions back in his studio at Hahndorf.
