Gums under mist is the first of many watercolours featuring a tree across the road near the front gate of Heysen’s house, The Cedars at Hahndorf.  Heysen found watercolour a more suitable medium than oil to represent this distinctive delicate gum.  Many drawings exist which show this tree from different angles and with various effects of light and atmosphere.
