  • WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992

This is thought to be one of the last works Heysen completed.  In it Heysen returned to a theme from earlier in his career, of a drover and sheep amongst massive, heroic gums.  But in this watercolour the mood is different.  The heroism and action are absent, with the drover looking into the distance, alone and vulnerable.
