- The artist’s name Luo Dang and number ‘3’ appears on the reverse side of this picture which suggests the three paintings 738P16-18 were once part of a larger album. The reverse inscription reads: The attacking troops have reached the city which is unrivalled in history. The foreign [Tibetan] monk gives teachings on Buddhism. The troops were sent, under the order of the Emperor, to the foreign land to control a confrontation. They pray for a safe journey across the Yangzi River. The southern tribes do not believe in the teachings of the monks.
