Bronzewings and saplings is one of Heysen’s finest and most adventurous compositions.  It was the culmination of seven years exploration of this theme. Heysen was sent a number of bronzewing turkey eggs and when they hatched many of the chicks turned out to be white, which was a rare occurrence.  The combination of bronze-winged and white turkeys inspired this series.
