  • A self-taught South Australian designer and artist whose expansive career encompassed art, fashion, design and craft, Annabelle Collett produced a distinctive brand of art and design, fuelled by feminist politics and a lively retro aesthetic. In 1978 she established YA YA Oblique Clothing, designing bright and colourful knitwear and clothing in geometric designs, which became an instant international hit. In 1981 she travelled to Paris on an Australia Council grant and subsequently began designing furniture as YA YA Design Studio.

The Blue Luxa chair was created in 1984 as part of Dynamo, Collett’s first furniture collection. The chair is constructed from plywood, with a hand-painted design and a custom cushion with spiked edging. With its Sydney Opera House-inspired vaults and brush-like black, blue and turquoise patterning, the Blue Luxa chair is a signature example of Collett’s playful aesthetic and captures the exuberant style of the times.
