Dhalwaŋu artist Djirrirra Wunuŋmurra presents her ṉuwayak (bark paintings) and larrakitj (memorial poles) alongside a series of new glass works inspired by her paintings and crafted in conjunction with JamFactory’s Glass Studio. Wunuŋmurra paints with ochres in a distinctive monochrome palette and is renowned for her precise skill and intricately detailed patterns. She depicts ancestral stories related to her Dhalwaŋu clan and Yirritja moiety, often focusing on the Yukuwa (yam) that is associated with a Yirritja renewal ceremony. The interpretation of her paintings onto glass has offered her an opportunity to explore and experiment with the form onto which her patterns are placed.
